Gary Schulte is a jazz violinist to whom Stephane Grappelli gave his most sincere blessing. Schulte’s duo with France’s top cellist-improvisor, Didier Petit, at Minnesota Sur Seine 2008 was called one of the highlights of the festival. A veteran of A Prairie Home Companion, Schulte has collaborated with a diverse crew that has included Gypsy Jazz guitarist legend Dorado Schmit, David Byrne, Dionne Warwick, Butch Thompson, Dean Magraw, Ballet of the Dolls,the Minnesota Gospel Twins, Ancestor Energy Poetry-Jazz, Twin Cities Hot Club, and many others in his career spanning nearly 40 years. He is also known for his unaccompanied solo CONCERTS IN UNUSUAL PLACES where he takes story or image requests and creates spontaneous performance compositions before a live audience. Schulte is a graduate of Indiana University School of Music, where he studied with Paganini virtuoso Ruggiero Ricci.
